Politicos flex muscles in opponents’ areas
Politicians in Haryana have taken a fancy to slug it out in their opponents battlegrounds to make their presence felt. The trend by now is so prevalent that holding a rally at their home turf has almost become a thing of the past. The trend has also caught the imagination of the man on the street, forcing the politicos to show their political muscle in their arch opponents area of operation. Although senior politicians have been organising political performances outside their own constituencies or home districts in the past, these were either a part of a statewide political campaign like the one launched by late Devi Lal in 1985 against the Rajiv-Longowal accord or such events marked the end of campaigning before the assembly or parliamentary election in the state. For several decades, Rohtak remained the first choice of all major political parties and their leaders for hosting campaign-end shows.
Legoland proposal topples
But state and local officials have resisted the plan because of the amount of tax incentives requested, according to news reports. RED Development proposed a $539 million Legoland in Lee's Summit with about a third of the cost being covered by tax incentives. That plan has stagnated. The company previously proposed a plan in the $800-million range for Olathe. But local officials balked at the prospect of as much as two-thirds of the costs being covered by public money. There are four Legolands in the world, only one of which is in the United States. The theme parks utilize the concept of the plastic building-block toys to create interactive play areas and rides marketed for children between the ages of 2 and 12. In 1999, the 128-acre Legoland California opened.
Junior's new team raring to go
He never introduced me to people, so for him to be doing that, I figured there was something important going on — some reason I needed to know this guy," Earnhardt said. Gordon and Earnhardt have been close friends since Dale Sr.'s death, although most of Earnhardt's fans don't support Gordon, a four-time champion. Gordon is thrilled to have Dale Jr. on his team, which also features two-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson and Casey Mears. "I really applaud the move that he made because, you know, he could have been just kind of sitting comfy at DEI and just have his normal pressure of stepping it up," Gordon said. "Now he goes to a team that's won a lot of championships, won back-to-back championships, and so now it's like, 'OK, this is the true test for Junior.' And I don't think that's necessarily fair, in a way because, you know, it still takes time for the team to gel." Not necessarily.
Mr. E's beautiful downer at the Galaxy
There's a nifty new primer on the work of singer-songwriter Mark Oliver Everett, the enigmatic, idiosyncratic man known simply as E. "Meet the Eels," it insists, for the first time placing "the" before that slippery moniker. It sports 24 tracks of varying moods and a dozen videos that rarely got airtime nary a bum cut in either lot. Yet, though it's a useful overview of Everett's six acclaimed albums, the package is only what it says it is a mere sketch of the odd, tragedy-stricken fellow whose tumultuous life and movingly warped view of it has given rise to songs that increasingly categorize him as a true original in American music. More than any tunes that are absent I miss "Dog-Faced Boy" and "Hospital Food," for starters the new retrospective lacks a crucial piece of E's story that isn't very musical at all: "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives," an hour-long BBC documentary about Everett's quest to learn who his father really was.

Edamame packaged perfectly for snacking
Like most of you my age and older, I did not grow up with lots of soybean products in the kitchen. Soy sauce was as exotic as our family ever got! I was most familiar with soybean meal, which was used to feed livestock. I never gave it a culinary thought. Then, years ago, along came what seemed like a flood of soybean products and I decided to give them a try. While I'm still not a convert to soymilk, there are numerous soy products that I regularly enjoy. My favorite is edamame. .
Biting dog unlikely to change his ways
Question: I have a six-year-old purebred German shepherd. I have taken him to several obedience classes. One instructor wouldn't let him come back, and another said he had "issues." He does not like strangers touching him, not even the vet. He will bite. He is also like this with other dogs. I have to put him away when people come to my house and I have to muzzle him. He has never growled or been aggressive with me. I feel like the situation is hopeless and euthanasia is his only option. I have considered it many times because I feel he is dangerous. -- A.H., Toronto Answer: Almost any dog can be trained. The problem is that no amount of training is going to change a dog's nature. You can't get a dog like yours to turn into Lassie and love all two-legged and four-legged creatures if it's not in his nature.
