What can I say about this one? Chambliss spent the next six years as a solid team leader and a key part of the Yanks success during the Billy Martin/Reggie Jackson era. The four pitchers the Indians acquired in this trade never panned out in Cleveland. December 9, 1982 - Phillies pay deep price for Tribe Phenom: This is a trade that actually worked out well for the Indians as they sent red hot outfield prospect Von Hayes to the Phillies for veteran 2B Manny Trillo, OF George Vukovich, C Jerry Willard, P Jay Baller, and SS Julio Franco. Of course, Franco was the big prize for the Tribe in this trade and provided a combination of speed and power at the plate for the Indians for a period of six seasons before being dealt to the Texas Rangers in 1988. Hayes, on the other hand, never quite reached his potential as a member of the Phillies.
Hardware HD DVD Boss: The Format War is Far From Over
You saw in November and December, everyone was aggressive with pricing. You could see how consumers are willing to buy HD movies when you get to an affordable price," he said. "Most people are very happy with their DVD, but when they see a 1080p movie, it blows them away." .
VIDEO: Arctic in Peril
The possibility is no longer science fiction. In recent years, Pacific salmon species that are declining on the West Coast have been showing up in Inuit nets. Theoretically, a polar meltdown could shut down the ocean "conveyor belt" that brings warm water into the North Atlantic and moderates the climate of Great Britain and northern Europe. The cold water moving south could compromise important fisheries in the North Atlantic just as it did in the early 1990s. Rising sea levels brought on by this meltdown could also displace the 104 million people who live in coastal areas that are within a metre of the ocean surface. Those who live on higher ground won't escape the changes that are coming. Polar ice is the genesis of cold fronts that bring rain and snow to much of the world.
Keep Pyramid options open
Now we have a "minister" in Murfreesboro, Tenn., who is saying that "Steve Cohen and the Jews hate Jesus" (Feb. 12 article, "Pastor's flier used to 'incite tensions' "). I have to wonder what mail-order mill he got his "minister certificate" from. I guess no one ever told him that Jesus was Jewish, just like Steve Cohen. Yet U.S. Rep. Cohen's challenger in the Aug. 5 primary, Nikki Tinker, holds herself above all this. Hmmm, shades of George W. Bush (the pride of AWOL men everywhere) when Karl Rove and his band of slanderers were funding the Swift Boat crowd who did everything they could to damage John Kerry's war record. Georgie said he thought it was awful, but there was nothing he could do about it. Sounds very like statements from Tinker and her henchmen. Well, yes, Ms. Tinker, there is something you can do about it, and it is long overdue.
Nutrition pros help find the grains of truth amid the hype about what ...
The worst thing you can do is say, 'I have 10 top foods, and that's all I'm going to eat.' " I guess that rules out the Special K diet I was going to start tomorrow. The Center for Science in the Public Interest, a nonprofit group in Washington, D.C., that advocates good nutrition and sound science and blew the whistle on trans fats and other dietary disasters, recommends adding sweet potatoes, grape tomatoes, broccoli, citrus fruits, butternut squash, spinach, kale, skim or 1 percent milk, wild salmon, brown rice and whole-grain rye crackers to your diet. But what about all those buzz words, such as omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, whole grains and probiotic cultures that we've been hearing so much about? You know, the ones that are supposed to make you live forever, or something like that.
Stop Chasing High-Tech Cheaters
This is in an impoverished, inner city school, mind you; 92% of those kids went on to college. I receive emails from many of them still, saying that the education they received FROM US (with our pathetic technology) prepared them better for the rigor of academia they have met in university than anything they could imagine. Possibly, they say this because they were not exposed to, and can therefore not imagine, anything else. Or because they were my pets then, hence the emails now. But the fact that 92% of them went on with their educations, and 75% of them stayed in higher ed (as opposed to those who flunk out after failing to make it out of their Bridge program), I think, says something. 2) I now teach in a district with a generous complement of technology and a strong commitment to training our kids to work in a world whose technology does not even exist yet.
Francine Nijimbere: "My husband cut off my arms for having a girl"
She is now living in fear following her husband's release and has sought refuge with ADDF, an association based in Bujumbura, dealing with the protection of women's rights. She spoke to IRIN on 22 February: "In December [2007], the president announced a pardon for all inmates suffering from incurable diseases. I hear my husband was released on a false name; how can a criminal like him be pardoned? The head of state pardoned inmates suffering from incurable diseases but my husband was not ill. "I was married to his elder brother, who was a soldier. He died in 2000 five months after our wedding. However, I remained in the house as I waited for the end of the mourning period in order to return to my parents' home. My mother-in-law insisted I should not go to my parents since dowry had been paid.
Fires scorch forests but spare homes
Covering more than 2,000 acres, the fire was the largest of several in the region. Nearly 1,000 acres had burned in Bedford County, and another 1,700 acres of mostly national forest land were ablaze in Craig County. "It's so large, we have what I would call pockets of containment," Burch said of the Roanoke County fire. The fire, which began as two smaller blazes, stretches from Timberview Road, just north of the intersection of Interstates 81 and 581, to the Carvins Cove area. One fire was caused by downed power lines; the cause of the second remains under investigation. Other than scorched forestland, the most serious damage to date involves a Jeep that went up in flames. Authorities said the driver got impatient with fire trucks that blocked the road and tried to drive around them.
Mother seeks retrial in death
There is no telling what all Andrew went thru in that house. Poor kid, with those looney tunes for foster parents....... As far as calming the boy - they had been using behavior modification. After Andrew would have a full serving, if he asked for more, they would try something that they thought he wouldn't like in order to cause him not to want more. First they tried lemon, which didn't work because he ended up liking it. Then they tried spices, which didn't work because he ended up liking them, too. (Suggest removal) .
